Help Support the 170 Otis Street Project to help Kid Serve create a 4-story mosaic mural
with teenagers in Foster Care
Hi, my name is Josef Norris. I am a mosaic mural artist and the director and founder of Kid Serve Youth Murals.
For 11 years Kid Serve has been creating outdoor mosaic murals with children and youth in San Francisco and Bay Area schools.
This summer, we are involved in a project that is very exciting to me. Kid Serve will be partnering with the San Francisco Independent Living Skills Program to work with a group of 45 youth who are in the process of transitioning out of the foster care system.
This project is special because it will involve a very at-risk group of teenagers who are largely invisible in this city.
By giving these kids the materials to create permanent public art in their communities, they are given an opportunity to say in a very positive and beautiful way: We are here and we matter.
For 9 weeks, I will come to their after-school program and guide these kids in the creation of a 4-story mosaic mural on a concrete wall near the entrance of the Human Services building at 170 Otis Street in San Francisco.
We will go on field trips to other murals, create tiles, make ceramic pieces and actually build large sections of this mural in the classroom and on site. At the end of August we will have a Community Mural Day, where friends and family will come together to finish the bottom section of the mural.
We need donations to pay for tiles, ceramics, thinset and grout. Please help us to make this project possible.
